Export or erase a patient's data (GDPR)

Two actions on the patient record cover most data-protection requests. Both are logged, and erasure keeps visits, payments and claims for accounting under an anonymous placeholder.

About 3 min

  1. 1

    Open the patient

Both actions are on the patient record and require a role that allows them.

  2. 2

    Export the record

Choose Export. A file with the profile, visits, notes, documents list, dental chart, plans, claims and communications is downloaded. Hand it to the patient or send it securely.

  3. 3

    Erase personal data

Choose Erase personal data. Read what is deleted: name, contacts, birth date, medical profile, notes, documents, chart, plans and communications. Visits, payments and claims stay under "Deleted patient".

  4. 4

    Confirm

Type the confirmation word and confirm. The action cannot be undone. The record shows the date the data was erased.

  5. 5

    Keep the request

Store the patient's written request with your own records; the access log shows who performed the erasure and when.

Good to know

  • Every time someone opens a patient record it is written to the access log with the user and time.
  • Data is stored in the EU; see the Security page for details.
  • If the patient only wants to stop receiving messages, clear their phone and email instead of erasing the record.
